A building in Horry County, named in honor of a former deputy administrator, will receive a new designation.
The council decided to change the name of the Randall S. Webster Emergency Operations and Communications Center to the Horry County Emergency Operations and Communications Center.
On December 2, the resolution was approved by the Horry County Infrastructure and Regulation Committee without any discussion or reading.
Understanding the Impact of the Sex Scandal
The name change comes after a lawsuit claiming that Webster sexually harassed Kelsey Manemeit, a former officer with the Horry County police. Horry County Council members claim the highly publicized sex scandal has nothing to do with the name change.
The lawsuit further asserts that a purported sex scandal, which resulted in the resignations of Manemeit and four others, was utilized to obscure the allegations of sexual harassment.
