The pandemic has really done a number on many of us, with more figures relating to obesity emerging since the lockdowns have ended. Let’s be honest, we don’t need to be hard on ourselves about that. Lockdowns and the stress of the pandemic and homeschooling and working from home all at the same time is hard! Of course we have packed on a couple of pounds and of course the belt on your trousers has gone up a notch or two. Did you know that there are some reports out there saying that Americans have gained weight during the pandemic – up to 42% of us?

It’s normal to put on a few pounds, but it doesn’t mean you have to keep it that way. If you’re feeling in any way uncomfortable, then it could be because you are dealing with too much abdominal fat. You can head to websites like elementbodylab.com and book an appointment to see a specialist about reducing this fat, but you can also have a look at the signs that you are dealing with too much of it in the first place so that you know what you are looking at handling. Below, we have got some of the most common signs that you are dealing with excessive abdominal fat.

  1. Even a little weight can make a difference. Extra fat around your midsection often isn’t a big deal when you initially realize it, but over the years your extra abdominal fat can put you at risk of a range of health conditions. Abdominal fat can be very sneaky and visceral fat can eat away at your health without you wanting to.
  2. Your waist to hip ratio is more than it should be. Figuring out your waist to hip ratio is so important. If your waist and hips line up, you’re going to be dealing with conditions that can affect your heart.
  3. Get your tape measure. If you want to make sure that your belly fat isn’t putting you at risk, measure your belly circumference and your waist and the higher the number the greater danger your fat is having on your body.
  4. You’re buying pants and bigger sizes. If you’re sizing up with jeans or pants, it’s not always vanity sizing. We all know that different stores have different sizing guides, but it’s you’re going to tell whether or not you’re getting bigger ones because the sizes are wrong or because your belly is hanging over the front of your old pants. If you’re sizing up, it’s time to face up to the fact that you might be dealing with some visceral fat around your stomach that you do need to get a handle on.

The earlier you get a handle on it and you get the help of your doctor, the better you will feel in a long time. You need to make sure that your body and your mind are both healthy, so dealing with optimal fat is the first step.
