June 9th is a critical date for Socastee, S.C. and other Horry County precincts. Republican primary voters turn out on that date. In Horry County, winning the Republican primary is paramount.

Today Jeremy Halpin announced his intentions to run for Horry County Council District 6th in the June 9th primary. The seat is currently held by Cam Crawford. District 6th is commonly known as the Socastee District with approximately just over 20,000 residents.

Democrats generally do not run opposition candidates in the November general election. This makes getting re-elected much easier for Republican County Council incumbents.

After the Hurricane Florence floods, however, and what locals called the tepid response by Crawford, this may be a tough year for the incumbent.

Halpin is a well known and well loved Socastee local. He works at a mortgage business in the area.

Halpin’s announcement today was quickly followed by an endorsement from a high profile, Socastee area flood family.

Halpin Endorsement

Terri Jean lives in the Rosewood section of Socastee. The entire community was devastated by Hurricane Florence.

Terri Jean, like many Socastee locals, believe Halpin will work hard for Flood Families. They also believe he will put Socastee residents above the concerns of a few industry insiders.
