There’s a new Town Administrator in Surfside Beach and his name is Gerald D. Vincent.

From his background to his innovative ideas for town development, Vincent is ready to work as a dynamic leader who is determined to make residents’ everyday life better. Does Gerald D. Vincent have the ability to create stability in the beloved town?

Vincent’s is scheduled to start the job on May 15. He replaces William Shanahan, who left the position abruptly.

As to looking for a new candidate, “We not just used our town, we used municipal associations to help us vet the people that we did,” Surfside Beach Mayor Bob Hellyer said.

Vincent takes over for Rob Clemons. Clemons became the interim town administrator when Shanahan vacated the job. Clemons is the Surfside Beach fire chief.

Clemons has served as the interim town administrator for the last six months.

“This person is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the town, implementing ordinances and programs adopted by Town Council, developing and administering the annual budget, personnel and purchasing policies, and advising County of the Town’s financial condition. As Town Administrator, this person also recommends policies, conducts strategic planning, and maintains intergovernmental relations,” the online job description says.

Surfside Beach has cycled through several town administrators over the past few years.

The Surfside Beach pier is the town’s hallmark attraction and is expected to reopen in 2023.
