In a text message sent to MyrtleBeachSC News today, Surfside Beach Mayor Bob Hellyer says the town of Surfside Beach fully intends to open on May 1st contingent on Governor Henry McMaster not intervening.

Governor McMaster could circumvent those plans by mandating the town stay closed for a longer extended period.

The current status is good until May 1, 2020. We will reassess our position as this date nears. This will give us time to see if the situation improves. As always, an executive order from the Governor will be the final word,” according to Mayor Bob Hellyer.
