St. James Intermediate School, known for its innovative teaching methods, received significant funding for their Math in Motion and Believe in Literacy programs. These programs aim to enhance student engagement and ensure literacy development by utilizing hands-on activities to make learning enjoyable and effective.
Similarly, South Conway Elementary received funding for their Mindfulness Matters: Building Resilience Through Fun program. This initiative focuses on teaching students essential life skills such as emotional regulation and stress management through engaging activities. This initiative is particularly crucial in today’s educational landscape, where mental health awareness is increasingly recognized as a priority.

Overall, Tanger donated over $190K across the country to fund classroom investments through the TangerKids 2024 Grants program. This program not only provides financial assistance but also fosters community involvement and encourages local businesses to invest in the educational future of their areas. Schools that received these grants are expected to implement innovative projects that can serve as a model for others, thereby multiplying the positive impact of the funding. This initiative is part of Tanger’s broader mission to enhance the quality of education and support students in achieving their full potential.
About TangerKids

The TangerKids Grant Program was created to satisfy the specific funding needs of community schools. This includes creating and implementing school-wide initiatives, updating equipment and academic materials, and supporting extracurricular clubs, athletic teams, and band programs.
The past two years have created a more challenging environment for many schools, highlighting a greater need for resources and support. Many institutions have been forced to reimagine their programs and classrooms.
For instance, schools have begun to adopt hybrid learning models and integrate technology in ways that support both in-person and remote learners. This adaptability has fostered resilience among educators and students alike.
In 2024, Tanger awarded over $190,000 to fund 160 grants. Over 60% of those grants served Title 1 schools and/or focused on inclusion — directly aligning with our environmental, social, and governance approach. This strategy ensures that resources are allocated where they are most needed.
Since 1996, Tanger has proudly made over $3.7 million total contributions through school-focused initiatives, enabling more youth to achieve their aspirations. The ongoing commitment to educational equity is essential for fostering future leaders and innovators in our society.
Stephen Yalof, Tanger President & CEO, emphasized the importance of community engagement in education. He stated that “Investing in our youth is investing in the future of our communities. Each grant we provide is not just financial support; it represents our belief in the potential of every child to succeed. We encourage schools to think creatively and develop programs that not only meet immediate educational needs but also prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow.” His vision for TangerKids aligns with broader educational trends that emphasize holistic development and community involvement.
The impact of the TangerKids Grant Program is further exemplified by the success stories emerging from the schools that have received funding. For example, St. James Intermediate School has reported significant improvements in student engagement and academic performance since implementing their funded programs. Teachers have noted that students are not only more interested in math but are also developing critical thinking skills that will benefit them across all subjects. Likewise, South Conway Elementary has seen an increase in student participation in their mindfulness activities, leading to a more positive classroom atmosphere. The collaboration between Tanger and local schools demonstrates a powerful model of community support that can inspire similar initiatives nationwide.
