Big Beautiful Bill

What leaders are saying about the one, big beautiful bill.

Understanding the Impact of the One, Big Beautiful Bill

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) said:

“President Trump’s One, Big Beautiful Bill is an economic lifeline for working families. It blocks the largest tax hike in American history from hitting parents and workers who spent the past four years struggling with the over 20 percent spike in prices of the Biden Administration on everyday necessities like groceries, gas, and utilities, and provides them with an additional, immediate tax cut.

“As I have said before, failure is not an option. House Republicans will not allow the 2017 Trump tax cuts to expire, which would mean 91 percent of taxpayers would see their standard deduction cut in half, the Child Tax Credit reduced by half for 40 million parents, and 2 million family farmers and small businesses hit with higher estate taxes. Families cannot afford a tax increase, and neither can our economy. House Republicans will not stop fighting for the American people until we deliver this bill to President Trump’s desk.”

Rising Childcare Costs are Squeezing Low-and Middle-Income Families

  • In the U.S., 65 percent of children under five live in a household where both parents work, and 70 percent of parents experience difficulty in paying for childcare.
    • American families spend up to $15,600 on daycare each year for just one child.
  • Over 47 million American families claim the Child Tax Credit.
    • Bidenflation increased the cost of raising a child by over 21%.

The Doubled Standard Deduction Is A Tax Cut for Working Families: The One, Big, Beautiful Bill increases and makes permanent the doubled standard deduction from the 2017 Trump tax cuts, helping the 91 percent of taxpayers who take advantage of this tax relief. During a Ways and Means hearing in Iowa, one mother warned lawmakers that allowing the tax cut to expire would have a disastrous effect on her family.

The one, big beautiful bill is expected to pass later today in time for the 4th of July.

Margaret Marple, Virginia mother: “As a stay-at-home mom and raising kids at home, there’s a lot of pressure at every angle, and a big one is financial. It influences your marriage. It influences all your decisions, especially grocery shopping and trying to meet needs for your growing family. The Child Tax Credit is a powerful form of communication, where the government communicates to people like me working behind the scenes, that my job raising kids is important to the stability and the prosperity of our country.”
