Marie Lawson, Waccamaw High School English teacher is under the gun for responses she made to a Facebook post surrounding the death of Christian Charlie Kirk.

The initial post reads: Gods don’t kill people. People with Gods kill people. Waccamaw High School English Teacher, Marie Lawson can be seen dropping a mic to this post.

Waccamaw High School is located in Pawleys Island, Georgetown County, S.C.

Marie Lawson also posted. “I actually think you are eligible for the lifetime achievement award for my favorite Facebooker.”

Attorney Jarrett Bouchette states that if it creates issues with your employer, they have the right to take action against you. The true employer in this case are the Georgetown County tax payers.

“First amendment only applies to actions taken by the government,” he said. “In other words, your first amendment rights are to protect you from government action infringing upon those rights.”

SC Superintendent of Education, Ellen Weaver, responded to Waccamaw High School teacher, Marie Lawson’s post:

“There have been multiple reports of disturbing, publicly posted comments by a handful of local educators in response to the horrifying assassination of Charlie Kirk. That type of dehumanizing behavior has no place in South Carolina schools,” wrote Weaver.

Weaver added. The South Carolina Attorney General has also clarified state law, verifying that it does not pose a threat of prosecution against Districts taking appropriate action related to employee misconduct. The South Carolina Department of Education has specifically confirmed with the Attorney General’s office that this analysis applies to all public employees, including K-12 educators.
