A gracious, and, at times, overwhelmed Brenda Bethune was sworn in as Myrtle Beach’s new mayor today. Bethune took the oath of office before a packed auditorium at 1 p.m. in the Ted C. Collins building on Oak Street.
The Bethune era brings a new chapter of hope and excitement to a city ready for positive change.
Two other newly sworn in city council members included Greg Smith and Jackie Vereen.
A NEW ERA
With expectation and a new sense of transparency and accountability, here is the hope many residents now hold for the city of Myrtle Beach: “My beloved speaks to me and says to me; Arise my love, my beautiful one, and come away; for behold the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of spring has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree ripened it’s figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.” (Song of Solomon)
