On any given day of the week, there are 3,500 homeless people wandering the streets of Myrtle Beach looking for handouts.

This past Sunday, a Myrtle Beach homeless man was assaulted and killed in the City of Myrtle Beach, according to Robert Edge, Horry County Coroner.

Brian Durost, 45, died from blunt force injuries after being assaulted, said Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Durost was found dead in a grassy area behind a building in the 1000 block of Highway 501, according to officials. This area is across from the 3rd Avenue South exit on Highway 501. The area is south of the Carver Street district and just north of Highway 501. The entire area is a known hangout for many of the homeless.

The area is also just west of Street Reach, a homeless shelter. The community kitchen for the homeless is also just east of this location.

Christopher Perry, Sr., 40, of Blythewood, was arrested and is now charged with murder, police said. Perry is also another of the many Myrtle Beach homeless.

Police determined the death was suspicious and opened a homicide investigation. Perry and the victim knew each other and Perry was allegedly the last person to have seen the victim on the day of the murder, according to police.
