If you struggle to get a good night’s sleep, and it is an ongoing problem, you should absolutely speak to your physician to rule out any medical issues, but one thing you can do in the meantime is ensure that your bedroom is a space that promotes and encourages a good night’s sleep.

So many of us are trying to sleep in bedrooms that are too stimulating or which actively hinder sleep, and by changing a few simple things, we can often find that a good night’s sleep is not so tough after all.

With that in mind, here are a few things you can do to create a bedroom you can really sleep in right now:

Clear out the clutter

If your bedroom is cluttered, it can be difficult to switch off and get a good night’s sleep because you will be busy focusing on the pile of laundry that needs to be dealt with or whatever it is that annoys you most. Rent yourself a 10×10 storage unit and move any clutter from the bedroom that you do not need into there, or donate it if you no longer want it, take everything out of the bedroom that does not need to be there, and you will instantly feel more peaceful in there.

Keep your cool

Keeping your bedroom cool is more likely to promote a good night’s sleep than keeping it very warm. Ideally, your bedroom should be around 60 degrees. This is the temperature your body prefers, and you should be comfortable enough at that temp, give or take a degree or two, to drop off without too much trouble.

Invest in Egyptian cotton sheets

Not only are Egyptian cotton sheets very soft, but they also allow your skin to breathe when you are in bed at night, so you do not overheat and you can get to sleep more easily. The higher the thread count the softer and comfier they will be, so do invest in the best you can afford.

Let there be lavender

Lavender is one of the best essential oils there is when it comes to easing anxiety and promotes a relaxing state. That’s why you should either spritz your pillows with a little lavender spray or diffuse lavender essential oils in your bedroom each night.

Turn it off

Ideally, you should turn off all of the electronics in your room before you go to bed in order to promote good sleep. It is particularly important that you should turn off any gadgets that emit light because, of course, if there is any light in your room, it can make it more difficult to get to sleep.

Buy blackout curtains

For similar reasons, investing in a good set of blackout curtains, which will plunge your room into darkness every evening is a really sensible way to help create the optimal sleep environment too.

Now, all that remains is to improve your bedroom and finally get a good night’s sleep when you turn out the lights!
