If you have a garden in your home, it is probably something that you are very proud of, and which you are quite keen to look after as well as you can. There is something to having a beautiful and healthy garden which can be incredibly lovely and can help to make a home so much more like a real home. Of course, there are a lot of steps that you might need to take in order to keep your garden as healthy as possible all year round, and that is what we are going to look at here.
Here are the main things that you might wish to do in order to try and keep your garden healthy all year round. As long as you are doing at least some of the following, you should find that this is going to happen so much more easily, and that the results are going to be exactly what you hoped for. Letโs take a look.
Get A Gardening Calendar
A really simple early thing you can do is to get yourself a gardening calendar. These are calendars which offer up tips for what kinds of tasks to do at each point in the year. Having an understanding of the main tasks that you need to carry out in each season can help you to keep on with your gardening so much more easily throughout the year, so it is something that you will really want to think about. Plus, such a calendar is obviously somewhere where you can make notes pertaining to your specific garden too, and how it is coming along and what needs doing next.
Set Out An Annual Plan
Gardeners who set out with a plan each year are much more likely to end up with a garden they can be happy with, and to know what they need to be doing at each point in the year too. Your plan can be as much of an overview, or as detailed, as you like, but the main thing is that you are effectively understanding what you will need to do at each point in the year in order to achieve the garden you really want. Make sure that your plan is as strong as possible, and you should find that it really helps you a lot.
Proper Watering
Watering plants is obviously essential, and itโs something that very few people get right. In fact, you might need to make sure that you are working on this if you are keen on having a really healthy garden, because if your plants are not getting the right amount of water at the right rate, then that is not going to be a healthy garden at all. Each plant has its own needs when it comes to water, which is part of the difficulty. But you also need to make sure you are able to water them when you are not there. For that, you can make a simple watering system out of some stainless steel tube and a timer, or simply ask a friend to come and do it for you.
Sun & Placement
As well as water, your plants each have their own preferences for how much sun they need too, so this is something that you will need to make sure you are thinking about as well. It might mean that you need to be a little careful with the placement of those plants, as some might need to provide shade for others, other plants might want cool corners, and so on. Again, once you have this basically down, then it is going to be relatively easy to keep your plants happy all year round, but it can take some work getting to this point.
Spend 15 Minutes A Day In The Garden
If you ever start to feel overwhelmed by how much there is to do in the garden, try to remember that you can actually do all you need to in short snippets here and there. In fact, if you just make a point of spending fifteen minutes a day in the garden, that is probably usually going to be enough to make sure that you have a garden that you are happy with and which looks as healthy as possible too. That time might be spent weeding, watering, or moving plants around, but in any case itโs going to help.
Get Ready For The Busy Months
There are of course some months which are much busier than other ones. You need to make sure that you are prepared for these if you want to have a healthy garden and to keep everything in place. Make sure that you are aware of what’s coming up at any time so that you can truly get ready for it. For instance, you might find that you need to think about how you are going to find time for extra watering during peak summer days. Thinking about this in advance can be hugely helpful. Or you might want to know how you are going to prepare for the start of spring, which can be busy too. Itโs all about making sure that you are ready for them before they come.
Keep It Simple
As far as possible, you might want to try and keep your garden simple, because doing so can make the work of looking after it simpler as well. If you have fewer plants of lesser needs, and you have a design and plan for the garden that is relatively stripped-back, you are going to find that keeping the garden healthy, active and beautiful is a much easier and simpler thing to achieve. So make sure that you are aiming for this if that is what you are keen on. You might find that it makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable on the whole.
