Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said a homeless man was assaulted and killed in Myrtle Beach this week. The Myrtle Beach homeless man was chopped to death while sleeping.

Willard said 43-year-old Robert Khattar was assaulted and killed around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. He was homeless and sleeping in front of 1526 Plaza Place at the time.

According to Ellis’s arrest warrants, police discovered a video showing Ellis filming Khattar, who “appeared to be covered in blood but responsive.” Ellis was also found carrying a large object with blood on it.

Ellis was also homeless and living on the streets of Myrtle Beach.

A man who was in the area purchasing some paint called the police after he saw Khattar lying on the ground with blood all around him, according to the incident report. Khattar was originally from Michigan, but had lived as one of the many Myrtle Beach homeless who meander the city.

MBPD said they arrested Everett Ellis, 18, of Wilson, on Wednesday in connection with Khattar’s death investigation. Ellis appeared in court Thursday morning and was denied bond.

The homeless man was chopped to death in an area off Joe White Avenue just down from Myrtle Beach Street Reach. This area is frequented by homeless who shelter in Street Reach overnight daily.

Osceola Street in Myrtle Beach is considered an unsafe area. Market Common residents, Dunes Club residents, Dell Webb residents, Grande Dunes residents, and Pine Lakes residents never visit the Street Reach district. It is considered dangerous to walk or jog in those areas late at night.
