At our 7 p.m. publishing, the elections commission anticipated only 200,000 Democrats state-wide had voted in Saturday’s SC Democratic Primary. As the final numbers came in, the actual numbers are closer to just 130,000.

This for a state with 5.1 million residents. The state also has 1.5 million registered Democrats.

Biden won the primary handily winning 96% of the vote.

However, only 4 percent of registered Democrats voted. The Democratic primary of 2020 attracted 540,062 South Carolinians – about 16% of registered voters.

What are these Democrat voters waiting for?

The South Carolina Republican Primary is February 24th. S.C. has open primaries.

An open primary system allows voters to choose which primary they wish to vote in. Registered Democrats can choose to vote in the Republican primary, if they have not already voted in the Democrat primary.

Roughly, 1.3 million Democrat party voters are waiting to vote in the Republican Primary for Nikki Haley.

The hope, called Operation Chaos, is an attempt to get Haley’s primary numbers up, making the S.C. Primary tighter. The same was attempted in New Hampshire.

Political insiders say former President Trump is still a shoe in to win the February 24th primary race.

A 40% state turnout for Haley will be called a win by her campaign. Most of Haley’s votes in S.C. will be cast by Democrats.

Even with these Never Trump democrats, Haley has a mountain to climb in the state, and she is unlikely to get there say pundits including Trafalgar pollster, Robert Cahaly. Said Cahaly, “She can’t risk coming to her home state and getting beat, beat soundly, that’s the thing political obituaries are made of.”
