Looking ahead, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will host a public information meeting to discuss the US 17 Business Safety Improvements Project on Thursday, October 26, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The meeting takes place at Myrtle Beach Middle School, 3101 North Oak Street.  Representatives will be on hand to cover proposed changes to US 17 Business (portion of Kings Highway), between 29th Avenue South to 27th Avenue North.

The project’s purpose is to reduce the frequency, and severity, of crashes

Plans include new pavement markings, high visibility crosswalks, concrete medians for access management, ADA ramps, leading pedestrian intervals (LPI) at crosswalks, upgraded equipment and new sidewalks.  Construction is set to begin next fall and the estimated timeline is 12 to 18 months.  See https://bit.ly/US17BusProjectSCDOTMtg for meeting details.  The comment period is now underway, and all project materials are available online at https://us-17-bus-safety-scdot.hub.arcgis.com/

Public input can be submitted in-person at the meeting, online, by mail or by email; all directions are listed below.  The submission deadline is Friday, November 10. 2023.  Questions?  Contact SCDOT Project Manager Kaylon Meetze at [email protected].

Highway 17 improvements are scheduled to begin in 2024.
