As McClatchy reported yesterday, there simply is no funding in the Senate 2022 budget for I-73.
Senators Greg Hembree, Luke Rankin, and Steven Goldfinch promised to submit a “Hail Mary” request over the next 24 hours, but Columbia sources said that measure would fail also.
WHY DID IT FAIL?
I-73 failed for lack of leadership. Local Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce [MBACC] minded senators could not explain to Horry County residents why the road was needed.
They also worked in heavy handed coordination with Myrtle Beach City government and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber in an attempt to force the funding on the state and local taxpayers. Neither the S.C. Senate nor the S.C. House would have any of it.
THE ART OF THE DEAL
Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce preferred candidates including Luke Rankin, Stephen Goldfinch and Greg Hembree have proven they do not have the necessary skill sets to work with conservatives.
On the House Side, Russell Fry and Heather Ammons Crawford proved they couldn’t get a deal done either.
It’s the difference between being “important” and getting things done.
The candidates we highlight below have a history of working with and through teams to get things done for residents.
