Horry County Schools closed Thursday. eLearning only.

An email sent out by Horry County Schools at 4 p.m. today reads:

On Thursday, August 31, 2023 all Horry County Schools (HCS) facilities will be closed for all students due to the forecast for inclement weather related to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Idalia.

However, HCS will operate on Thursday with an eLearning day for all students. School staff members will provide directions for students regarding Thursday’s eLearning day.

All extracurricular competitions (athletic and other extracurricular) scheduled for Wednesday, August 30, 2023, and Thursday, August 31, 2023 are canceled.

However, practice events (athletic and other extracurricular) scheduled to take place on a school campus may continue on Wednesday after school if weather conditions permit.

Because HCS is approved by the South Carolina Department of Education as an eLearning district, this eLearning day will not have to be made up.

Students who are unable to participate due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers will have the opportunity to complete assignments at a later date.

HCS anticipates a safe return to school on Friday, September 1st; however, HCS will continue to monitor weather conditions.

For updates please monitor the HCS website or visit HCS on social media outlets.
