Candidate for District 61, John Cassidy, is a compassionate leader. He has among the highest emotional quotients of all those running for the state house this election cycle.

Mr. Gregg Neavit spoke with our news team about how Cassidy saved his daughter’s life in 2015. Neavit told MyrtleBeachSC News, he wished he lived in John Cassidy’s district. He said John would certainly have his vote.

Gregg Neavit wrote the following after his daughter’s life was saved by John at the scene of a horrific head on collision.

Mr. John Cassidy was driving with his family and witnessed an accident in 2015 at Gallivants Ferry on Highway 501.

In December of 2015, my daughter was injured during a traffic accident at approximately 1:00 a.m. Her mother was driving on the wrong side of the road causing a head on collision.   A person in the other vehicle lost their life and there were injuries to two other persons in the vehicle of the deceased.

After others had driven past the accident, Mr. Cassidy stopped to assist.  Seeing my daughter in the vehicle he attempted to extract her from the vehicle but her seatbelt was jammed.  Her mother’s vehicle was starting to catch on fire.  Thankfully, Mr. Cassidy had a pocketknife and was able to cut away the seatbelt as flames were coming from the dashboard of the vehicle saving my daughter’s life.

If Mr. Cassidy had been like so many others and driven on, my daughter would not be alive today.  My daughter asked if she could meet Mr. Cassidy to thank him.  Mr. Cassidy readily agreed to meet her and they talked for over an hour.  Since she had very little memories of the accident, Mr. Cassidy was able to provide her with information about his part in saving her life.

Her mother was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI resulting in death.  Her trial took 4 years for the case to go through the court system, which is unconscionable.   She was finally found not guilty
even though there was hard evidence to the contrary.
