Explosion & Fire damage buildings, vehicles at  PirateLand Camping Resort in Surfside Beach

Horry County Fire Rescue (HCFR) crews responded to a 2 alarm fire on the 5000 block of S. Kings Highway near Surfside Beach Saturday.

Tourists on the beach said they heard the sounds of propane gas tanks exploding. A thick cloud of smoke quickly followed.

Crews were first called to the location of Pirateland Camping Resort around 1 p.m. Tourists could be seen scattering the beach heading back to the campground to check on their camping vehicles and sites.

Two buildings, and two vehicles were heavily damaged by the fire, and six more units were damaged by the heat. No injuries were reported.

Horry County Fire and Rescue are investigating what may have initially caused the fire. The fire is now fully under control.
