The Meta company’s social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, and Threads were down for many users across the globe this morning.

There appears to be a particular impact on Facebook and Threads. As of 10 a.m. ET, when reports of the outage began to surface, neither app was loading. Instagram feeds aren’t refreshing for some users, while others can still access the app. Facebook users can’t log in for many reasons.

In a post on the social media site X Tuesday, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said: “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it.

In the U.S., 16 states and one territory are going to the polls on Super Tuesday, which is the day of the outages. As a result of the disruptions, presidential campaigns might have difficulty reaching voters through platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Shares of Meta were down more than 1% on Tuesday morning as the hashtags “#instagramdown” and “#facebookoutage” trended.

The company is also experiencing “major disruptions” across its Meta Admin Center, Facebook login, WhatsApp Business API, and Marketing API, according to its website.

In addition, YouTube confirmed some users were experiencing loading issues, a blank homepage, and errors while trying to watch YouTube Shorts on Tuesday. According to a post on X, YouTube directed users to follow its “Help Community” post for more details. It is unclear if the problems are related to Meta’s outages.

Facebook, now Meta, said the outage was caused by “configuration changes on backbone routers” at the time of the 2021 outage.
