Ground Zero, a Biblical based student discipleship organization has been informed by Horry County School Principal Janice Christy that the group can participate in Myrtle Beach Middle School activities this calendar year.

City of Myrtle Beach Public Information Officer Mark Kruea made statements to the press in late August distancing the city from Ground Zero’s Biblical stance on marriage. Ground Zero has held these principles even before it occupied the former Rivoli theatre in downtown Myrtle Beach in July 2011.

Ground Zero leases the theatre from the city, after investing over $1 million in property upgrades as a condition of its lease.

After Kruea made those remarks, an email from Jessica Grimes was sent to Matti-Jo Spivey of Ground Zero. MyrtleBeachSC News Foia’d Horry County Schools for the emails below.

Grimes’ email dated August 26th stated. Good Morning, Matti-Jo. I have been advised that we are not able to participate in the Ground Zero events planned this year, including See You at the Pole.

After MyrtleBeachSC News’ article aired on August 29th – Hundreds of Christian parents pack School Board Meeting Foia’d records show that Christy both met with and emailed Scott Payseur, Ground Zero Director, the below.

Good afternoon, Mr. Payseur. Thank you for meeting with me this morning regarding the misinformation that has been circulation about Ground Zero’s participation in school-related assemblies at Myrtle Beach Middle School.

I appreciated the explanation about why Ground Zero recently canceled the September assembly. As discussed, MBMS looks forward to continuing to offer students the opportunity, with parent permission, to participate in appropriated school assemblies sponsored by Ground Zero. I appreciate the detailed information about the speakers for 23-24 school year, and I look forward to having such information earlier in the future so that we can plan appropriately for the school calendar.

If you can confirm the assembly Ground Zero formerly canceled for September, we will work to gain parent permission, as we have done in years past, vet the speakers, and place each on the school calendar.

Again, thank you for your time and MBMS looks forward to continuing our partnership. Janice Christy Principal, Myrtle Beach Middle School.
