TRAFFIC ADVISORY: At 6:17 a.m., Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of 880 Lake Arrowhead Rd. for a reported vehicle under water.

One occupant was removed from the vehicle with injuries and transported to Grand Strand hospital.

The HCFR Dive Team will be assisting with removal of the sunken vehicle.

South Carolina Department of Public Safety will be investigating.

Please avoid the area to avoid possible delays, and for the safety of those on scene.

Research published this year in Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine by Gerren K. McDonald and Gordon Giesbrecht, of the University of Manitoba, estimates that vehicle submersions cause about 400 fatalities in North America annually.
