It’s time to give two thumbs up for Coastal Carolina University (CCU); Already a heavy hitter for its ace sports and science programs, CCU’s revving up to take the athletic experience up a notch for students. The scoop? The South Carolina State Fiscal Accountability Authority gave a green light to a mind-blowing $20 million project. Get ready for a cutting-edge $20M athletic facility just south of Brooks Stadium, taking up a massive 93,000 square feet.

CCU’s Biggest-Ever Donor-Funded Project

CCU’s President Dr. Michael T. Benson says it’s the biggest project funded by donors in university history – and that’s saying something, considering the number of initiatives the institution has undertaken over the years.

Mark September 7 on your calendars because – CCU’s rolling out the red carpet with a flashy groundbreaking ceremony, two days before the Chanticleers’ home opener against Jacksonville State. But the facility isn’t just about looking “cool”, according to Dr. Benson. It’s a multi-use space for all those college tournaments while dialing up the vibes for graduate ceremonies, intramural sports, and a variety of on-campus and community events.

The Details

Thanks to $15M from donations and $5M from capital project reserve funds, it’s all systems go for the $20M athletic facility. And while it might push up operational costs, CCU has assured that students won’t feel the pinch with tuition or extra fees.

This facility is a student-athlete’s dream: a full-scale synthetic turf football field, massive training spaces, a coach’s tower, top-of-the-line AV tech, and stylish interiors.

The Facility Gives Way to Opportunities for Multidisciplinary Applications

There’s a serious buzz going around these days about science programs – especially chemistry, and it’s getting louder. Why, you ask? Well, the world is becoming more scientific and tech-savvy, and young people are catching on. Coastal Carolina University (CCU) is knocking it out of the park with its science programs, making complex concepts accessible and exciting. It’s becoming the go-to place for science-savvy students. They’re doing an amazing job of blending rigorous academic curriculum with real-world experiments, and that’s making science, especially general chemistry, a hot favorite.

CCU’s groundbreaking athletic facility will further help develop these science programs as this state-of-the-art facility opens up new opportunities for multidisciplinary applications. The expansive space (which becomes available in less that two years) can be utilized for transformative science projects, experiments as well as exhibitions.
