Lutheran Services Carolinas, with their New Americans Program, will assist immigrant fly ins to Horry County beginning a new life in Myrtle Beach.
According to Ted Goins, president of Lutheran Services Carolinas, individuals who have fled other countries simply desire the opportunity to succeed and achieve the American dream. They seek a chance to live and thrive in their new home.
After realizing illegal immigrants, seeking asylum, were being bussed in and flown in to the area, a Market Common resident reached out to MyrtleBeachSC News and posted the following on Facebook.
The federal government chooses refugees from various countries worldwide. Once they are placed in Myrtle Beach, Lutheran Services Carolina assists them in adjusting to their new environment.
Chamber assists with illegal immigrants fly ins
The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce intends to assist the program by helping refugees find employment opportunities.
Karen Riordan, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, stated that a major focus will be on spreading awareness and linking business owners with the individuals that will be served by Lutheran Services Carolinas.
According to Pastor Brad Bellah, when Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church was requested to contribute $10,000 for the program, the congregation raised over $17,000.
Bellah explained that these individuals expressed a desire to embrace those who are different from them, as they believe Jesus welcomes everyone including themselves.
Executive Director Matt Hembree, of New Americans Program, stated that they are anticipating the arrival of illegal immigrant fly ins in April.
However, according to local residents, the immigrants are already arriving.
