The Myrtle Beach Police Department has Keal Latrell Brown in custody following a shooting that occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at the Hollywood Wax Museum located at 1808 21st Ave North.

Brown was identified hours after the incident by MBPD Investigations team with the help of our State Law Enforcement Division.

Brown fled to the Charleston area and was taken into custody with help from the U.S. Marshal Task Force.

Brown will be held at the Charleston County Detention Center awaiting transport back to Myrtle Beach.

SHOOTINGS BECOME COMMON

The City of Myrtle Beach has been the site of three front page shootings in the last six years. A shooting on July 18, 2018, left one dead and four injured. On April 30, 2017, one person was killed and three injured. On September 3, 2016, two were killed and two were injured.

The first shooting occurred on July 18th 2018 at the Fountainbleau hotel. The shooter killed one individual and injured four others before turning the gun on himself. The second shooting took place at a home in Myrtle Beach on April 30th 2017 in which one individual was killed and three others were injured. Another incident happened at a nightclub where two individuals died and two were wounded on September 3rd 2016.

The City of Myrtle Beach has since purchased the Fountainbleua Hotel and is demolishing it.

The city is working a downtown development plan in hopes of rebranding the town and making it safer for tourists.

The cities of North Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach remain among the safest beach towns in America.
