Meetings for Ride IV begin tomorrow, January 23rd. This $4 billion road package will be taxed only to Horry County residents through a 1% sales tax.

Where these roads are built and where dollars are allocated matters.

Voters will decided on this measure at the ballot box next November during the general election for President of the United States. Your opinion and your votes matter on this key infrastructure issue.

A list of all the scheduled RIDE IV meetings can be found HERE.

After polling locals, MyrtleBeachSC News has compiled key questions that we believe need to be asked of local officials as they pitch this package during the next few weeks.

KEY QUESTIONS ON RIDE IV

These are the key questions we suggest you ask staff to answer in reference to the Transportation tax legislation that the county is trying to use for Ride IV.

  • What counties currently do this?
  • Does the current legislation address appointments to the advisory committee?
  • Is the process that selects projects addressed? Is the term of years addressed?
  • Does SCDOT have any oversight in selecting projects to enter into the state system?
  • Does the referendum to approve require a basic majority vote?
  • Is there any project flexibility once the referendum is passed?
  • Is there a criteria for the type of projects that this transportation tax could be used for?
  • Is there a timeline for the implementation of the transportation tax and the start of funded projects?
  • What is the process for monitoring and reporting on the progress and outcomes of the transportation projects funded through the tax?
  • Will Horry County also implement another 1% sales tax above and beyond the RIDE IV. They have another 7 year 1% sales tax that is not now being discussed.
