Area resort Credit Card processer and manager, Troy Bittner, was charged on five counts of wire fraud today.

The 53-year-old man from Myrtle Beach was indicted by a grand jury after being accused of stealing nearly $1 million from Carolina Pines RV Resort.

The indictment states that Bitner “devised a scheme … to defraud and obtain money and property by means of false and fraudulent pretenses, representations and promises.”

During the 2020 period of Covid 19 large numbers of tourists began cancelling their S.C. vacations.

Bitner devised a scheme where credit card refunds on cancellations went into his personal banking account.

Between January 1, 2021 and this week, Bittner is accused of removing money from the Carolina Pines RV Resort’s safe and documenting the refund to his personal account, according to police.

Bittner is now charged with three counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent of $5,000 or more. He was released today on a $35,000 bond.
