In a written statement today, candidate for Horry County Council Chairman, Mark Lazarus, dropped his appeal to the SCGOP for a new election. Lazarus previously sought to have a new campaign issued for the race of Horry County Council Chairman.

Today, a defiant Lazarus accepted the results of the June 28th run-off, despite his ongoing protest.

Said Lazarus, “There is no recourse to count the votes, so no further appeal will be pursed.” He added “Thank you to my family who supported and stood with me throughout this entire campaign, and my thanks also to the legion of residents who supported me with their votes, their time, and financial support. Your belief in me will never be forgotten.”

Lazarus initially brought his appeal to the Horry County GOP stating that nearly 1,400 Democratic absentee ballots were mistakenly sent to Republican voters.

The HCGOP refused to hear that complaint as it was filed after the filing deadline of July 4th.

Today, Lazarus said he accepted the certification of the election by the county elections office.
