Speaking at the NAACP debates this past week, Mayor Brenda Bethune said she believed children should be allowed to pick the gender of their own choosing.

According to wikipedia: Gender transitioning is the process of changing one’s gender presentation or sex characteristics to accord with one’s internal sense of gender identity – the idea of what it means to be a man or a woman.

Bethune resonated in full agreement with these remarks as can be heard on the short 23 second video clip above.

Mayor Bethune has consistently held this position since just after she was first elected in 2017.

According to a 2020 Gallop poll, less than 1% of all U.S. adults consider themselves Transgender. In that same study, Gallup estimates that 5.6% of the U.S. adult population is either lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

South Carolina’s population of LGBT adults ranks near the bottom of that study with less than 3% of all South Carolinians considering themselves LGBT.

This continues to be one of the top priorities and key initiatives of the Bethune administration.

A recent October 2nd article published by WMBF News highlights Myrtle Beach Pride Week.

Mayor Bethune is a huge advocate and proponent for the Myrtle Beach Pride festival.
