MyrtleBeachSC News ran into Mayoral Candidate Gene Ho at a scheduled Myrtle Beach City Council meeting today where 97 former city employees pleaded with the city to continue the health benefits promised to them decades ago.

Ho operates Gene Ho photography in the downtown area of Myrtle Beach just south of City Hall. Gene Ho Photography has operated in Myrtle Beach for over 30 years.

Ho is the author of Trumpography, a New York Times best seller. He was the official photographer for the Trump political campaign.

Ho has known and worked with some of these former city employees since they were first hired.

Many former employees were forced into an early retirement by the city in 2020. These same employees expressed their concerns today as they were notified on August 26th that their health benefits were being terminated by Mayor Brenda Bethune and the City of Myrtle Beach.

Bethune promised the former employees she would hold a workshop to study the issue, however, she indicated she was not inclined to keep the former promises made. She stated, “Things change.”

WHETSELL CAMPAIGN GOES POLITICAL

Typical Comments Under Whetsell’s Post

After Bethune’s campaign Manager, Walter Whetsell, put up the following meme about the Mayoral candidate, Ho said he was disappointed. He said this was certainly not a day to play politics.

He added, however, that he had great compassion and empathy for his friends, the former city employees and their families, some of which he has worked with for decades.

His complete comments can be heard in the short video above.
