Nakato Japanese Steak House announced today that they are closing their doors.

The 45-year-old Myrtle Beach staple was a favorite restaurant row dining establishment.

Nakato Japanese Steak House shared the sad news on Facebook.

Due to multiple challenges, the restaurant is unable to reopen after a fire in 2019.

According to the post, “We have been in heavy litigation with the insurance company since the fire in 2019, and we have not been able to make up the loss to reopen.”

Customers were thanked for their loyalty over the past four decades and invited to the other restaurant in Atlanta.

The Facebook post reads:

To our dearest Nakato Japanese Restaurant – Myrtle Beach patrons and friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the Nakato family will not be re-opening our Myrtle Beach location. Since the fire back in 2019, we have been in heavy litigation with the insurance company and we were unable to make up the loss that we have incurred to make it possible to re-open.

We can’t thank you enough for supporting us during the past 45 years. Many of you have become our family and friends and included Nakato as a part of your family’s tradition. We will truly miss that.

In the next couple of days, we will be posting some great memories that we shared with guests, staff, and family, if you can also do the same so we can reminisce the great pleasure and experience we were able to share with you during our tenure.

It will not be the same, but if you get a craving for Nakato’s authentic Japanese dishes and feel like taking a road trip, we would love to see you and welcome you at our flagship restaurant in Atlanta.

Please have a safe and happy holiday season!

And please keep in touch…

With much love,

The Nakato Family
