The family of Penny Rebecca Hensley Luther sadly announced her sudden passing on August 3, 2022. A private ceremony was held by the family on August 26th in Elkhorn City, KY with Penny’s remains buried on the family’s mountain property. Penny loved the mountains having grown up in Asheville, NC and had just recently relocated to Kentucky with her son and daughter in law.
Penny was born on January 27, 1963 to the late Fred William Lee Hensley and the late Ruth Lorena Jones Hensley both of Asheville, N.C. She graduated from Asheville High School in 1981. Known for her incredible singing voice, she was a regular artist at the Hilton in Asheville in her twenties. Also during that time she was in the Miss Asheville Pageant. Afterwards she worked in several different jobs before settling into Advertising and Sales in the WNC area where she excelled. But her greatest accomplishment and love was for her son Hunter. He is her greatest legacy.
Penny will be remembered for her love of children, her charismatic smile that could change a room, her mischievous sense of fun, her intuition and ability to read people which made her an incredible sales person, her Motown voice, her bubbly and sassy personality, her deep brown eyes with a twinkle that spoke volumes. And at the end of her life a tenderness and a heart to know the God who made her. She is irreplaceable to those who love her.
Penny is survived by: Her only son, William Hunter Luther, and her daughter in law who was the daughter she never had, Briann Aaren Felde Luther, of Elkhorn City, KY. Her four sisters (and their spouses) Debbie Smith of Hendersonville, Laura Hensley Qunell (Don) of Hollywood, S.C ;Marlene Hensley Hucks (David) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Teresa Hensley of Fletcher N.C.; and a brother Fred (Monica) of Hendersonville, N.C. Also by many loving Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews & nieces who miss her dearly.
