This morning, Washington D.C. saw a victory for the South Carolina Freedom Caucus as America First Legal and Christopher Mills won their lawsuit against the state’s establishment politicians. The court issued a forty-page opinion that declared the existing statutes, which had been created to give an advantage to certain legislative groups, unconstitutional due to their violation of the Freedom Caucus’ free speech and equal protection rights.
Gene Hamilton, America First’s Legal Vice President and General Counsel, issued the following statement:
Gene Hamilton noted that, though the Constitution guarantees the right of free speech, we have often seen attempts to stop Americans from exercising it. He highlighted South Carolinaโs discriminatory law which permitted some groups to speak freely but not others. Hamilton was delighted at being able to obtain a win in court for their clients in the South Carolina Freedom Caucus and furthering free speech rights for citizens of this country.
