Because a family is still waiting for information concerning this article, this is a sensitive issue. MyrtleBeachSC News considered those concerns with this publication as the search has now been called off.

On Thursday night, tragedy struck when a swimmer in Myrtle Beach disappeared in the waters around the vicinity of 21st and 25th avenues.

Over the next days, search and rescue teams frantically scoured every nook and cranny of nearby beachline and waters to bring him back safely. Yet, despite their relentless efforts, there is still no sign of the lost swimmer.

Drones were used in searching the entire area.

We’re doing a surface search. Again, more looking for any kind of: Do we see a body? Do we see anything in the water from the drone? Sometimes you get a better view from an aerial view with the drone or from a hotel vantage versus being on the beach end,” said Capt. Jon Evans with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.

While the name of the swimmer has not be released, news of his disappearance spread across social media channels. The Coast Guard was instrumental in coordinating search and rescue efforts alongside Myrtle Beach related teams.

Throughout the night, boats combed through turbulent waters while drones scoured from above.

Yesterday, the harrowing reality sank in – as search and rescue teams began looking for a body, instead of a rescue.

With every lead pursued, the search has now been called off.

As of now, there is no sign of the missing swimmer. No body has been found washed ashore along the Myrtle Beach coastline.

Authorities are not saying if they know the identity of the missing swimmer, nor who notified the beach patrol of his struggle in the water.

There were multiple reports of swimmers struggling along the beach on Thursday, however.
