The Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad is searching the waters near 25th Avenue South for a missing swimmer.

The Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue was dispatched just before 5 p.m. for a call of a 20-year-old swimmer in the water. Capt. Jon Evans said crews could not find the swimmer when they arrived, so a search was conducted.

In addition to beach rescue squad chief Brian Mitchell, the U.S. Coast Guard arrived on scene to assist in the search.

Currently, there are few details available.

Drowning incidents in the ocean can occur for various reasons, including strong currents, lack of swimming skills, dangerous underwater conditions, or unexpected health issues. The number of deaths related to ocean swimming can vary greatly depending on several factors, including geographical location, population density, and safety measures.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), drowning is estimated to cause over 236,000 deaths worldwide each year, although it is important to note that this includes all types of water bodies, not just the ocean. Unfortunately, MyrtleBeachSC News doesn’t have access to specific data on the number of people who die specifically while swimming in the ocean.

To obtain accurate and current information on ocean-related drowning incidents, it is best to consult official reports from relevant authorities such as coastguards, lifeguard organizations, or national statistics agencies. These organizations often collect detailed data on drowning incidents in specific areas and can provide more precise figures.

Search for the missing swimmer in Myrtle Beach continues.
