After the Sea Mist Resort went viral on TikTok, more hotels have continued to suffer the same fate, with Myrtle Beach Hotels ranked as the third dirtiest in the USA.

In Myrtle Beach, a family has complained about “unsanitary” conditions in their room.

As part of his vacation, Brooks Strickland made a TikTok video of a room at the Ocean Star Hotel in Myrtle Beach.

As soon as I touched the bed mattress, I felt the dampness. It was wet,” Strickland said. “I looked up at the ceiling, and I saw water droplets on it.”

The hotel management blamed the moisture from the beach, according to Strickland.

A person had used the bathroom — all over it, not cleaned at all. The bathtub even had holes in it,” he said. After we had gone around the dressers, there was nothing but water on top of the dressers, the TVs, and then I looked up and saw the water drops on the ceiling. A lot of water drops were scattered all over the roof. There are bloodstains on the couch, hair mold on the bed skirts.

A refund was denied to Strickland’s family after they left the Ocean Star hotel room.

As far as cancellations go, I understand. But for something that’s just . . . it’s not something you can live with,” he said.

He said he attempted to reach the owner for a few days, but was ignored. He was told the owner of the Ocean Star Hotel was out of town.

Strickland said, “I told him that if things don’t change soon, I’m going to post this video on social media.”

As of Thursday, the video had more than 13,000 likes on TikTok. Strickland said the owner contacted him one day after he posted the video, apologizing and refunding him.

The owner of the Ocean Star Hotel then texted Strickland several times, asking him to take down the video and offering him a full refund, but only giving him 15 minutes to decide.

In other words, it makes it look like they can just pay their way out of it, doesn’t it? “If I were to say yes, how many other people have done this?” Strickland asked.

Strickland plans to keep the video on his TikTok, which isn’t the only complaint online.

According to Google, the hotel has only 1.8 stars out of 5 and has a Bookings.com rating of 3.4.
