Westgate Resorts provides $60,000 in gifts to 3 Myrtle Beach charities

Mark Waltrip, Westgate Resorts’ Chief Operating Officer,  reached out in support of the Myrtle Beach at risk community during a check presentation and celebration event hosted by Westgate Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort.

Totaling $60,000.00, this considerable contribution will benefit three community organizations with $20,000.00 each that align with the Foundation’s focus pillars of opioid crisis, family stability, military and workforce readiness.

Local charities that qualified and received checks today included:

  • New Directions of Horry County (Pathways)
  • Help4Kids (Backpack Buddies)
  • Habitat for Humanity of Horry County (Financial Literacy & Housing)

Mark currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Westgate Foundation and the Board of Directors of the Victoria’s Voice Foundation as well as the Central Florida Region Commission for Homelessness. Previously Mark served on the Board of the Florida Special Olympics. Mark is also an accomplished author and chef having written two books: Recipes for Success & Culture of Success.

Mark joined Westgate in 1996 and has had a remarkable and diverse career that includes working in the space launch industry with Computer Sciences Raytheon where he helped develop the launch facilities for the commercial space program and was an engineer on the launch team for 12 Atlas-Centaur space launches. Mark served twenty years in the United States Air Force, where he specialized in program management and business reengineering.

Mark received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado. He is a member of the National Honor Society for Aerospace Engineers and the National Honor Society for Engineers.

New Directions, Help4kids, and Habitat for Humanity of Horry County are especially known for helping homeless families, locals struggling with drug addiction, and at risk families in Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas.
