How many of us take hundreds of photos, only to never take them off the camera or the phone, and never look at them again? If you like taking pictures, they can be a wonderful way to decorate your home in a relaxing way, show off some treasured memories, and add a personal touch to your decor. Display your memories instead of hiding them away with these tips.

Spend the time learning how to how to transfer photos from iphone to mac or how to get them off your camera, print some photographs, and start enjoying them as part of your decor.

Achieve A Balanced Display

When you’re displaying your pictures, hang the larger, most heavily framed, or more imposing pieces on the left-hand side. This is where the eye will naturally land first. Put lighter, smaller pictures towards the right.

Take What’s Under The Artwork Into Account

Don’t forget that if you’re displaying pictures of over a piece of furniture that you will be displaying accessories on, you will need to take these accessories into account when you’re making an arrangement. Work the shape of your gallery wall around these objects to make the whole area look cohesive.

Create A Grid With Your Picture Displays

If you have a lot of different pictures that all share a similar color palette, even if the frames don’t match, you can create the effect of one large picture by grouping them together to create a square or rectangle.

Use A Color Scheme When Displaying Photos

When dressing the area around your gallery wall, choose accessories that pick out the colors of your picture to pull the scheme of the room together and intensify the colors in the pictures. Think about the color of the wall that your pictures are displayed against too. This might be a color that will highlight one of the accent tones in the picture to better show it off. A group of pictures that include similar colors, like all black-and-white, will look better together.

Make Sure The Scale Of Your Gallery Wall Works

If you’re hanging a single picture or a group of pictures above a piece of furniture like a bed or a sofa, try to match the proportions of the pictures to whatever is below them. The same size is perfect, but up to two-thirds of the width of the furniture will look good too.

Display Pictures In A Surprising Place

Sometimes you can create more impact with your pictures by displaying them in a space you might not have considered at first. This could be behind the head of your bed, up the stairs, or at the end of a hallway.

Layer Your Frames To Create A Textured Display

Layering artwork is easy to do and works well over a fireplace, shelf, or item of furniture. However, it doesn’t work over a blank wall with nothing underneath it. Use a mix of finish and size of frames. Hang the largest picture first, and work the others in around it, until you find a finished arrangement that you like the look of.

Check The Proportions

Before you start hanging your pictures up, work out whether the size and shape of the space you have will work with the proportions of the pictures you’re going to hang. Tall, rectangular pictures or groups in this shape will look better on a wall without anything in front of it. Wider pictures and groups look better over the sofa or the sideboard. Small pictures in vertical groups will suit a gap between window or door frames. You could also group them into a horizontal line to lead the eye along a hallway.

Hang Photos In Odd Numbers

If you don’t have many pictures to display, an odd number is more visually pleasing than an even number. Use the middle picture to mark the center point of the wall, or you can display them off-center. Group together small pictures with gaps of no more than 5cm between them. For larger pictures, you can go up to 10cm.

Unify A Group Of Photos

If you have a mixed lot of frames, and different sizes and subjects of pictures, you unite them to creating a false frame on the wall with a painted panel. This can be used to pull different colors from the photos, but it also just helps to unify a more varied lot of pictures, so the finished wall looks cohesive and more deliberately styled.
