Seven men and five women began deliberating at 3:50 pm Thursday in the S.C. Lowcountry murder trial of Alex Murdaugh.

This just after bailiffs delivered the judge’s charge, murder and firearms indictments and a cart piled high with boxes of exhibits – including various shotguns and assault-type rifles  to the jury room.

At 6:41 p.m. the jury reached a verdict. The jury deliberated only 3 hours.

Jurors found Alex Murdaugh guilty of murder in the death of his wife, Maggie, and son Paul.

Possession of a weapon in the commission of a violent crime – verdict guilty.

Indictment for possession of a weapon during a violent crime – verdict guilty.

The trial was covered nationwide by all major media outlets.

Sentencing was deferred until 9:30 a.m. Friday. Maximum sentencing is life in prison.
