There was a vehicle in the water at the Socastee Swing Bridge on Dick Pond Road at the Intracoastal Waterway in the Socastee community area, Horry County Fire Rescue said.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Horry County Fire Rescue crews were called to the swing bridge in the Socastee area to assist with a water-related call.

A body was recovered by HCFR’s dive team just before 1:30 p.m. Towing crews are en route to remove the vehicle.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the driver 23-year-old Demeatrius Chandler Jr. from the Myrtle Beach area. The coroner’s office said Chandler was the only person in the car.
