MyrtleBeachSC News was on the scene as American fighter jets shot down a Chinese Spy balloon as it left the coast of Myrtle Beach.

We captured the below footage as the balloon was hit. The balloon appeared to be punctured, but kept largely intact.

1) over the hotels in MYRTLE beach
2) getting hit by the missile
3) next frame after missile strike
4) balloon & debris approaching the ocean after being shot down

Debris is now being collected off the coast. Sources told MyrtleBeachSC News that the U.S. Government would need to shoot the balloon down before it could enter international waters.

Had the balloon traveled 12 miles off the Myrtle Beach coast, it would have been in international waters.

Apparently, President Joe Biden gave the official go ahead to shoot down the Chinese spy balloon.

REPORT DEBRIS TO DISPATCH

Earlier today, federal authorities conducted operations off the coast of Horry County that could result in debris in area waters.

Members of the US Military are coordinating to collect debris from the ocean; however, it is possible fragments may make it to the coastline.

If you see debris along our coastline in the City of North Myrtle Beach call their Non Emergency Line for Dispatch at 843-280-5511.

Debris should not be touched, moved, or removed.

Such items are part of a federal investigation and tampering could interfere in that investigation.
