The September schedule for Coastal Carolina University Football is set with the Chanticleers playing UCLA on September 2nd.
Tim Beck has been the Chanticleers’ head coach since December 2022. Over the past 20 years, the Chanticleers have played 242 games. Three coaches have led the Chanticleers to postseason play in that time: David Bennett, Joe Moglia, and Jamey Chadwell.
Beck’s previous position was offensive coordinator at North Carolina State University, where he held that position since 2020.
The Maxwell Football Club announced in July that Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall has been named to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List for the third consecutive season. McCall returns this September for his final season with the team.
Since 1937, the Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a former standout at Swarthmore College and renowned sportswriter.
McCall has been a Maxwell Award Semifinalist twice, in 2020 and 2021.
In addition to being named the 2023 Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, McCall was also named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt first team.

As the first Sun Belt Conference football player to win the award three straight seasons, McCall also earned a spot on the 2022 All-Sun Belt first team last season for the third straight year.
UCLA is currently a favorite to beat Coastal, however, the team is predicted to win its next three consecutive September games.
With a new head coach, however, there are more unknowns than knowns for the 2023 Coastal Carolina University Football season.
