Today, House Speaker Jay Lucas tendered his resignation letter to the House. The letter was backdated to April 12th.
Next Thursday, April 28th the S.C. House of Representatives will vote for a new speaker.
Murrell Smith, of Sumter, will be voted in as new House Speaker on Thursday, April 28, 2022.
It is commonly believed the now former House Speaker Lucas will seek a judgeship on the S.C. Supreme Court.
The JMSC, which has long been led by Horry County Senator Luke Rankin, will make that selection if it is made.
