ON JANUARY 16, 2019 OFFICERS OF THE MYRTLE BEACH STREET CRIMES UNIT, WITH ASSISTANCE FROM MBPD SWAT AND
OTHER OFFICERS, EXECUTED A SEARCH WARRANT AT 704 YORK ST.
The motel located at that address is the Oasis Motel, owned by Naom Pyade, who sits on the board of the Myrtle Beach Downtown Redevelopment Corporation [DRC].
The raid involved the illegal sales of narcotics sold from that property. Six people in total were nabbed in the operation. Police found substances they reported as cocaine based, heroin, packaging, money, drug paraphernalia, and a “plant like material.”
The raid is of particular interest to local merchants. The DRC has been very active in monitoring and supporting the city in its efforts to “clean up” downtown Myrtle Beach. In 2018, Pyade’s DRC team, working with City Manager John Pedersen and Myrtle Beach City Council, were instrumental in banning local CBD oil sales on Ocean Boulevard. The combined group claimed that the merchandise, while legal, was not “Family Friendly” and hurt the city’s downtown image.
This is the second Myrtle Beach hotel to become ensnared in drug controversy in this new year.
