Stormwater Master Plan implemented by Myrtle Beach City Council

Myrtle Beach City Council is aggressively taking on the issue of Beach Bacteria spikes and other stormwater events happening inside the city limits.

Myrtle Beach City Council heard and asked questions about the Stormwater Master Plan presentation from WK Dickson yesterday. WK Dickson has been hired to provide solutions city-wide that include eliminating beach bacteria spikes that run (on the beachfront) up to 96 times above acceptable levels after rain events.

W. K. Dickson’s master plan looks at water quality and the runoff effects of urbanization, and opportunities to remove pollutants and reduce flood risk in a cost-effective manner.

These bacteria spikes tarnished the town’s brand image now for a decade. Strategies are now in place to put these spikes and other issues in the city’s past.

Additionally, with a $54 million tax paid advertising budget, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce needs these improvements to solidify the brand to markets where they promote.
