Myrtle Beach Police arrested a woman who reportedly works as a Myrtle Beach Uber driver (both Lyft and Uber) on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.

32-year-old Rebeca Vargas-Torres was arrested on April 6 and was released on April 8 at J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a bail set at $50,000.

The victim informed the authorities that a driver for Uber and Lyft, whom he occasionally hires, forcefully pressed a gun against his face in an attempt to steal his fanny pack containing money. The incident took place on Feb. 29 in a room at the Holiday Shores Motel located at 7501 N. Ocean Boulevard. Police arrived at the scene around 4:30 a.m.

According to the police report, as the victim attempted to leave, the defendant prevented them from doing so by blocking the door. Upon finally getting outside, the victim was pursued and physically assaulted with a gun.

Based on the information in the police report, it seems that there may have been someone else involved.

The reason for Vargas-Torres being in the motel room was not mentioned in the police report. According to the victim, who suffered minor injuries, they were robbed and assaulted by an unidentified man with a gun as per the report.

The reports failed to mention the reasons behind the police’s belief that Myrtle Beach Uber driver, Vargas-Torres was responsible for the crime or the details of what she purportedly took.
