A Myrtle Beach police report describes the terrifying moments when Jacob Mechling opened fire inside a home.

A shooting was reported Saturday night in the 400 block of 7th Avenue North just off Chester Street.

When police arrived, they discovered Jacob Mechling, 29, in the back of the building. They detained him before looking for the victim.

According to the incident report, officers found 15 bullet holes in the victim’s home and three more at a nearby motel while searching for the victim.

According to the victim, she was sitting in her room when she heard multiple gunshots go off through the wall.

In the police report, she stated that she couldn’t recall how many pieces of the wall fell on her shoulder.

There were three other people inside the home at the time of the shooting. No one was injured.

There are multiple charges against Mechling, including four counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling.

His bond has been set at over $110,000 at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Jacob Mechling’s Priors

In 2021, a Youngstown man was arrested at the Community Corrections Association alternative sentencing facility on Market Street in Youngstown on charges of beating another man.

He was arraigned in municipal court later Monday on a charge of felonious assault. Jacob Mechling, then 26, of Loveless Avenue, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail that Saturday.

Police were called to CCA about 6:35 p.m. Saturday after a man inside had severe facial bruising.

A video showed Mechling outside the man’s room with his shirt off before entering the room and exiting a few moments later. No one else entered or left the room, reports said.

The man told police at the hospital he didn’t know what happened to him, only that he had been hit with something solid.

Court records did not reveal why Mechling was in CCA.
