Speaking to a group of American Conservative Voices in Myrtle Beach, on crime tonight, York area S.C. Solicitor Kevin Brackett said, “Your system is perfectly designed to give you the results you are getting and your system is perfectly designed not to keep you safe.”
Then Brackett added, “And let me just say, I am not down on Luke Rankin… I don’t hate him either, but I wish he wasn’t there. I really do, because he is not helping us. He is not a friend of public safety.“
Solicitor David Pascoe (D), Orangeburg, Solicitor Kevin Brackett (R), York and Sheriff Kevin R. Tolson of York County were the key note speakers.
S.C. Judicial Reform
The main topic was South Carolina’s need for judicial reform. Hands down the three felt that legislative lawyers, picking our judges, was the biggest impediment to justice in South Carolina.
Said Sheriff Kevin R.Tolson, “Luke Rankin from Horry County and Gerald Malloy from Darlington County, and I’m like Solicitor Pascoe, I don’t hate the players, but the game has got to change. Those two individuals will not talk about a bill that has mandatory individual sentencing.“
He added, “They want a watered down law. They want to pass a fentanyl bill that doesn’t have mandatory sentencing. And then they want to go, well, if fentanyl doesn’t have mandatory minimums then neither should heroin, neither should crack, and neither should methamphetamines. They want to lighten up those laws.”
The comments of both law and order officials can be heard entirely in the video above (top of this article).
