With a range of hectic schedules and work and life just taking over, being healthy at work can be one of the last things that we think about. If you have a desk job, then you will know and understand just how much of your time is spent sitting at the computer. And with many sugary snacks on-hand and caffeinated drinks on-tap, it can easily take a toll on your overall health and wellbeing.

So what are some of the things that we can do to make ourselves feel better? By incorporating some small but still realistic changes into your routine, it can get you more active and be more aware of your health on a daily basis. Here are some of the things that you can do to make sure that you are looking after yourself in the workplace.

Hold employer accountable

In some instances, an unhealthy environment can be as a result of your employer’s lack of care and consideration for creating a safe and healthy work environment. If this is the case, then it is important to raise this with an employer. It is best that they hear from you now before you send in a mesothelioma attorney as a result of negligence on their part. If you know that changes can be made then it is important to voice them so that things can improve.

Employers must be aware that it’s on them to improve the space and atmosphere their workers are in. They’re solely responsible for enhancing workplace wellbeing and you should remind them of this crucial task because their employees are the foundation of any successful business. For example, having a space for employees to relax and unwind is important. This could be something as simple as adding some comfortable chairs and a few plants in the breakroom.

Snack better

We can all get peckish throughout the day, but if you are only snacking on unhealthy and sugar-laden treats, and you’re not moving very much, then it can lead to an excess of calories, and ultimately, weight gain. Sugary snacks can also leave you feeling tired after an initial burst of energy. Try to snack on things like fruit, veggie sticks, plain popcorn or rice cakes, or dried mango for something chewy.

Keep hydrated

Staying hydrated is something that is so important if you want to be able to stay healthy and well. One thing to think about is how much water you consume, especially compared with how much tea or coffee you consume. When you have plenty of water, it refreshes your body and gives you more energy. You’re made up of water so it makes sense that having enough is what is going to make a difference to how well you feel.

Move as much as you can

It can be tempting to stay seated when you’re busy, but how about going to talk to someone at the other end of the office instead of just sending them an email? How about taking a walk over your lunch break, rather than just getting your lunch and eating it sat at your desk? It is important to move as much as you can throughout your working day too. For example, cycling to work and then going to a yoga class when you get home are both ways that you can be active in your working day.

Small changes can make a big difference to how you feel and to your overall health.
