The summer months are fast approaching and many of us are already enjoying the warmer weather. As always, with brighter and longer days and nicer temperatures, the majority of us want to spend more time outside. If you have a garden or backyard, you’re lucky – you have your own private, outdoor space to relax in and you’re going to be able to kick back and relax comfortably. That is, of course, as long as your space is up to scratch. Many of us begin to neglect our outdoor spaces as the winter months come into play and we spend less time out there. Things can begin to overgrow and become dilapidated, and by the time summer comes around, we find ourselves with a real mess on our hands. The good news is that any garden can be tackled. Here are some tips and tricks that can help you to get things under control!
Mow the Lawn
Perhaps the best and most logical place to start is mowing the lawn. This can quickly get overgrown in the winter months, even if the rate of growth does slow during periods of colder weather. Before taking your lawnmower to the grass, make sure to look around. Long grass can often hide debris that has blown into your garden, and you’ll want to remove rocks or other items that could damage your lawnmower. Then, take to mowing the lawn in clean lines. When you get to the edges and corners, you’ll need to use a strimmer to cut down long grass that the mower can’t reach.
Take Care of Your Trees
Do you have trees in or surrounding your garden? These will require specialist care. Branches may need to be cut back for safety’s sake or for the tree’s health. Generally, it’s best to use a tree service for this. Professionals will be able to take a look at each tree and determine what needs to be done for them to get back into good shape. This is also safer, as they’ll have the correct equipment and safety protocol in place to complete the work with little risk.
Hedges
Hedges also need to be trimmed back. Some people choose to do this themselves with some sheers. This is fine, but if you want a particularly neat finish or specialist shapes, you should use a landscape gardener who can take care of the job for you.
Design
Gardens aren’t purely about functionality. People like to make them look great too! You should consider your garden’s design and place beautiful additions around. This could be anything from planting flowers to creating hanging baskets or even adding features such as ponds or water features.
By following some of the simple steps above, you can really help to get your garden back under control and create a comfortable and enjoyable space to spend time in. Whether that’s lying reading a book, sitting out and watching the world go by, entertaining friends and family or anything else!
